Gathering Joy at the Kitchen Sink

The morning dishes were plentiful. I cleared one side of the sink and began filling it up with warm water.  After squeezing soap in a swirling motion over it, I watched as suds appeared.

While scrubbing away at the various pieces of silverware, bowls, and light blue plates, a delightful thought occurred to me.  The window. I  pushed it open to enjoy the pleasant spring weather as I worked. Gentle breezes drifted through in refreshing gusts. Birds sang cheerfully. My heart did too. So many gifts! They were bestowed along with all the things I needed to fully appreciate them–my sight, hearing, use of limbs, strength, and energy to name a few. I was quietly awestruck.

Although I fall short many, many times when it comes to doing chores, or things around the house, the Lord gave me the grace to delight in Him. I chose to enjoy the good gifts He gives instead of griping. And do you know what? My work turned into worship as I gathered the joy of moments at the kitchen sink…

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

-Colossians 3:17
